Cooloola Wildflowering Artist Weekend - Retreat Fri 6 Sept-Sun 8 Sept
Expression of Interest open for Gympie regional artists
Gympie regional artists are invited to submit an expression of interest to secure a place on a spring time wildflowering retreat this September 6-8. Approximately 6-8 Gympie Regional artists will be subsidised to attend the full weekend retreat. Participating artists have the potential for work to be shown as part of a curated component of the ‘Wildflowering by Design’ exhibition at Gympie Regional Gallery, Jan-Mar 2025.
Over the weekend you'll be led by experienced guides and artists visiting a number of wildflower sites in the Cooloola region using Rainbow Beach as our home base. You will walk through stunning natural landscapes, discover a range of local native wildflowers, and have your creativity nurtured by experienced artists and designers. The retreat will run from Fri 6 Sept from 9.30 am to Sunday 8 Sept at 1.00 pm. (There will be a one day only option for the Saturday, running 9.30-4.00). About ‘Wildflowering by Design’
Wildflowering by Design explores contemporary responses to our botanical and wildflower heritage. It presents works by Queensland female artists who work across the art and design spectrum. Taking a fresh look at the historical legacy and engaging with local landscapes, the artists have created new, re-imagined works and visions. Through bringing nature into people's homes and lives, we help create a 'botanical culture'. This builds broader awareness of our native 'wildflower' heritage and appreciation for Country.
Curated by Dr Sue Davis & Dr Lisa Chandler
Artists including: Rose Barrowcliffe, Nai Nai Bird, Renata Buziak, Donna Davis, Joolie Gibbs, Anne Harris, Nicole Jakins, Shelley Pisani, Edith Rewa, Cara Ann Simpson, Marni Stuart, Emma Thorp & local artists from the region.
