Design Wilds - Design Lab and exhibitions

Building upon the success of 'Wildflowering Design Lab' program and local exhibition for 'Wildflowering by Design' at Caloundra in 2025, for 2026 we have embarked on a new iteration and local exhibitions.

We are excited to share a wonderful new collection of wildflower-inspired designs showing in the outdoor exhibition space at Coolum Galley Lane (mid August - mid September 2026) and then at the Arts and Ecology Centre, Maroochy Botanic Bushland Gardens from Nov 18-Dec 6.

‘Design Wilds’ features imagery inspired by our local wildflowers. It includes works by artists who participated in workshops and wildflower walks as part of a Design Lab at UniSC earlier this year. This exhibition aims to celebrate these important plants of place that are part of the special ecologies of our local area.

The designs are repeat patterns so they can be repurposed as prints on posters, fabrics, clothing and accessories. We hope that by being surrounded by wildflowers in our daily lives, we might raise awareness so that we seek to protect them.
Design Wilds is curated by Sue Davis, Marni Stuart and Lisa Chandler.

Our poster features designs by our ‘Wildflowering Design Lab 2026’ participants, and facilitators/curators:
Leighanne McHugh, Samantha Taylor, Sarah Smith, Tigerlily Boyce, Bronwyn Davies
Lisa Chandler, Rosie Lloyd-Giblett, Sue Connor, Sue Davis, Catherine Haigh
Cecile Bell, Amelia Tilly, Dimitie Smith, Helen Evans, Jen Conde
Marni Stuart, Anna Hanssen, Donna Condon, Hope O’Chin, Karina Sharpe
(also in the exhibition Cynthia Lee)

The November iteration of the exhibition will also include additional works by participating artists and the first iteration of Fiona Harding's 'Flower Shelter' (more info on that soon, also follow the process on Fiona's instagram account Spirit You)!

This project was made possible by funding from the Grants Program Sunshine Coast Council. It is also supported by The Wildflowering Collective Inc and UniSC.
